Today is mostly sunny, humid, and warm. It rained yesterday and last night.

I fed the birds. I've seen a few sparrows and house finches.

I dropped the Java moss into the trough pond. It floated. If it doesn't sink after absorbing water, I may need to find a rock to put on it.

I put out water for the birds.

EDIT 6/8/25 -- I did a bit of weeding in the septic garden and new picnic table.

EDIT 6/8/25 -- I did some work around the patio.

EDIT 6/8/25 -- I sowed cypress vine seeds around the support wire and in the septic garden.  Some of the earlier ones have sprouted, but I plant extra because they often get eaten.

I gathered a few poppy seeds.

The first Asiatic lilies are blooming, white with pink tips, around the telephone pole.  :D  Daylilies have buds.

I've seen a male cardinal at the hopper feeder.

Lots of things are sprouting in the septic garden.  \o/

EDIT 6/8/25 -- I picked half a bag of mulberries in the south lot and along the front fence.

I've seen a mixed flock of sparrows and house finches plus a mourning dove.

EDIT 6/8/25 -- I picked half a bag of mulberries along the front fence and in the savanna.

EDIT 6/8/25 -- I pulled weeds from the tulip bed.

EDIT 6/8/25 -- I pulled weeds along the strip garden.

The sky clouded over in the afternoon and feels like it might rain again.

EDIT 6/8/25 -- I pulled weeds around the edge of the house yard.

As it is getting dark, I am done for the night.

3,500-year-old graves reveal secrets that rewrite bronze age history

Around 1500 BC, radical changes occurred in people's lives: they ate and lived differently, and the social system was also reorganized.
Bronze Age life changed radically around 1500 BC in Central Europe. New research reveals diets narrowed, millet was introduced, migration slowed, and social systems became looser challenging old ideas about nomadic Tumulus culture herders

Today is cloudy, mild, and damp.  It rained yesterday, and probably more last night.

I fed the birds.  I haven't seen much activity though.

I put out water for the birds.

EDIT 6/7/25 -- I did a bit of work on the patio.

It's been spitting or drizzling for much of the day, and is picking up again now.

EDIT 6/7/25 -- I put out more food for the birds.

I've seen several sparrows and house finches, a catbird, and at least one mourning dove.

The 'Mr. Stripey' tomato has green fruit.  :D

Philosophical Questions: Looks

People have expressed interest in deep topics, so this list focuses on philosophical questions.

Would the world be a better or worse place if everyone looked the same?

Much worse. It would be difficult to tell people apart. That would require doing something to make artificial distinctions, which has a lot of drawbacks. We know that problems occur when people are difficult or impossible to distinguish, because those things happen under conditions where people's normal distinctions are obscured. One of the most common is that it runs up the crime rate, because people are more likely to misbehave when they can't be punished because nobody can tell for sure who did it.

Courses - May/June 2025

FutureLearn

Italian for Beginners (Part 2 & Part 3)  (Open University)  I'm definitely learning something.  If I really worked at it I'd learn more, but learning lots of vocabulary no longer appeals, so I'm working on the general repetition basis and some of it is going in.

Film Audience & Spectator Experience  (Film Distributors' Association)  I don't go to the cinema very often, although this year I have seen 'Conclave' and 'Mr Burton', but nevertheless this is a well-presented course, which I enjoyed doing and from which I learnt a little.  It's also improved by having the main tutor responding to comments.

OpenLearn

Transport & Sustainability
A Level 2 science course, which I was delighted to be able to follow and do the calculations.  An interesting look at different forms of transport and their relative sustainability, including being realistic about the current greener options.

Basic Science: Understanding Numbers
Continuing with the Maths theme.  Quite interesting, but covers a lot of the ground I've done previously.  I'm now looking at taking some Level 2 Maths courses, which should require rather more mental input, which is one of the reasons for my taking courses!

Understanding Autism
Another badged course.  Well worth doing.  Although I've had contact with people with autism and their needs before, I felt the course taught me a number of things.  Within a church setting, it doesn't hurt to be aware of needs and be as accommodating as possible.

Booksta, Canva, and Cozy Chaos

(or: how I stopped trying to be a serious reviewer and started having a good time)

So… I’ve accidentally fallen back into Bookstagram.

Not in a strategy kind of way. Not with spreadsheets or goals or carefully timed posts. Just in a “I was messing around with Canva one evening and made a cute graphic, and then another, and then suddenly it had been six weeks and I’d somehow rejoined booksta?” kind of way.

It’s been weirdly lovely.

I didn’t start with a plan. I still don’t have one. But somewhere between experimenting with templates, playing with fonts, and figuring out what felt like me, I started noticing a little style creeping in. A colour palette here. A favourite font combo there. A vibe. It’s still evolving (and I love that), but it’s been surprisingly grounding to watch it slowly take shape.

And the biggest shift? I’ve stopped worrying about reading the “right” books. No more pressure to keep up with the latest releases or write reviews that sound a certain way. I’m just reading what I actually want to read. Posting when I actually have something to say. Ditching the mental checklist and leaning into the messier, softer side of bookish life.

It’s not perfect. It’s not polished. But it’s fun. And that’s something I didn’t realise I’d been missing.

Booksta, but make it cozy chaos. Honestly? I’m kind of into it.

I mostly post about: My journal is very new, i think I decided to make it because I was feeling a bit low and just wanted to write about my feelings and interests and hopefully find like-minded people. I'm also trying to make my web experience a more pleasant one, so I like looking at journals and personal websites. Indie web, small web, that kind of thing I yearn for so I might share things I find! But so far, I like to yap about my daily life and my practice in fighting games. I just started a fight log so I can hopefully more clearly see my progress! I will probably generally just talk about other things like anime, video games and maybe I'll post art or photos taken on my digicam. Also I'm queer and figuring things out still lmao

My hobbies are: Currently I'm focused in on fighting games (granblue rising, but I'm also a street fighter and guilty gear enjoyer), working on my art, vtubing, crochet and the smallest smattering of baby guitar when I can find time after all that. Other interests that can come back into my rotation is language study (Japanese and Spanish), miniature painting, nail art, weightlifting, snorkeling (I dream of scuba/free diving tho!)

My fandoms are:I'm not deep in any fandom at the moment but I enjoy content from sailor moon, granblue, guilty gear, general DnD stuff, hololive, vshojo and arcane. I'm also a huge Lady Gaga fan. And a lover of My Chemical Romance.

I'm looking to meet people who: I think are cool! I enjoy reading other people's day-to-day life and their passions, might get me excited about something new , too! If we hype over similar things that's a tasty cherry on top ;9

My posting schedule tends to be: aiming for at least a few times a week.

When I add people, my dealbreakers are: if you don't support LGBTQ+, if you excuse any wars, if you support generative AI, you know if you lean in those kinds of directions - please don't talk to me.

Before adding me, you should know: I'm sorry if my post was too long! And I might be using this as a form of therapy (cuz therapy is expensive) so if I do post something that's a bit heavier, I'll learn how to put it behind a cut and maybe make it friends only. But I think I'll try and keep cheery here! I'm still learning how to use this site
